Two Hospitalized With Life-Threatening Injuries After Friday Shooting Near UNC Charlotte
Two people were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a Friday afternoon shooting on Education Way in Charlotte's University City area, near an apartment complex close to UNC Charlotte. The university confirmed the incident did not involve university housing.
Two people were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Friday afternoon after a shooting in Charlotte's University City neighborhood, according to Mecklenburg EMS Agency, known as MEDIC.
First responders picked up the two victims on Education Way, a street that wraps around The Mill, an apartment complex near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte campus. Both were transported to a hospital with injuries described as life-threatening.
Authorities have not released the identities of the two people injured. It was not immediately clear Friday what time the shooting occurred, what led up to it, or how many people were involved.
A university spokesperson confirmed that the incident did not involve university housing, though the location is just off campus in an area heavily populated by students and young professionals.
The University City corridor, which surrounds UNC Charlotte, has seen sustained growth in recent years, with thousands of students living in private apartment complexes along Education Way and nearby streets. The area has also drawn attention from residents and campus officials concerned about safety in the off-campus housing corridor.
Investigators have not said whether anyone has been arrested or whether they have identified a suspect. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
