Stanly County sheriff leads multiagency probe involving vape shops

A multiagency investigation involving vape stores is underway across Stanly County, authorities said Tuesday, Oct. 6, as sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement officers were seen at multiple locations in Albemarle.
The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office said the active investigation involves local, state and federal partners. The office did not disclose what investigators are examining, saying the operation is ongoing and details could not yet be released.
At least six sheriff’s office vehicles were seen at one vape shop along N.C. 24 in Albemarle on Tuesday evening. Officers were also reported at other shops in the city. Authorities have not said whether the N.C. 24 store, or any specific business, is suspected of wrongdoing.
The sheriff’s office is leading the investigation, according to Albemarle police. Officials stressed that the operation extends countywide and is not limited to Albemarle.
No further details about the investigation or any potential charges were announced Tuesday.
