Gun found during Woodlawn High School search after student dispute; police arrest student
A student was arrested Wednesday morning after a loaded gun was found at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore County, authorities said. No one was injured, and the gun was not discharged. Principal Yalonda Booker said two students had a verbal altercation and staff separated them. After receiving reports that one student might have a weapon, staff conducted a search and found a gun, according to a letter Booker sent to the school community. The school resource officer confiscated the firearm and arrested the student. Baltimore County police said additional officers responded at about 10 a.m. The investigation is ongoing, police said. Booker said weapons are prohibited on school property and that the student would face school consequences as well as law-enforcement action. She also urged families to discuss safe choices with students and report concerns to a trusted adult. School counselors are available to students who need support, she said.
