Potholes on eastbound I-70 near Security Boulevard prompt vehicle damage reports
Drivers traveling east on Interstate 70 near Security Boulevard and Cooks Lane have reported potholes severe enough to damage vehicles and raise safety concerns. Some motorists told WBAL-TV they had flat tires after hitting the damaged pavement. One driver said a pothole pulled his vehicle sharply to the left. A worker at a nearby repair shop said cars towed from the highway had damage including bent rims, tie rods and control arms. The Maryland State Highway Administration said recent heavy rain damaged the pavement while a resurfacing project is underway. Crews had closed the two right lanes for emergency repairs, with those lanes expected to reopen the following day. The agency said it would then close the left lane as work continued. SHA Administrator Charlie Gischlar said the resurfacing project was expected to be completed by the end of October. Drivers who believe their vehicles were damaged by the roadway can submit a claim to the Maryland Treasurer’s Office through its online claims portal: https://mstep.powerappsportals.us/beginclaim/.
