Baltimore police link three September carjackings to ride requests, charge 23-year-old
Caron Davis is accused of using ride requests to lure Baltimore Sedan Services drivers before taking their vehicles at gunpoint. The three incidents were reported Sept. 19, 20 and 22, according to charging documents.
A 23-year-old man has been charged in connection with three armed carjackings targeting Baltimore Sedan Services drivers in September, according to court records and charging documents.
Police allege that Caron Davis arranged rides and then threatened drivers with a handgun before taking their vehicles. He faces charges including armed carjacking, first-degree assault and use of a firearm in a violent crime, along with other offenses.
The investigation began with a Sept. 19 pickup in the 1500 block of Montpelier Street. The driver told police a passenger in the back seat pulled a handgun, ordered him out of the car and drove away in his 2004 Toyota Camry. The driver’s Samsung phone and tablet were left inside, according to the charging documents.
Police reported two similar incidents involving the same sedan service on Sept. 20 and Sept. 22. Investigators said drivers in both cases were lured by ride requests and had their vehicles taken at gunpoint.
Investigators traced internet-based phone numbers used to request the rides through account, IP address and Apple records, which they say connected the requests to Davis and his iPhone. Charging documents also cite body-camera footage from an unrelated police call in August. Investigators said the video showed Davis using what appeared to be an iPhone to request a ride from 1509 Montpelier Street, the same pickup address as the Sept. 19 incident. The company confirmed receiving a request from that address around the same time, according to the documents.
Police said Apple records later identified Davis as the subscriber associated with the email address and iPhone used for the ride requests. An arrest warrant was issued Oct. 6 and served Oct. 8, court records show.
