One person died and another was taken for medical care after an elevated work bucket struck a power line at a downtown Austin construction site Friday, Oct. 9, the Austin Fire Department said.
Firefighters received the call at about 2:40 p.m. A construction crew was working on a high-rise on Reserve Road when the bucket swung into the line, causing its mechanisms to malfunction, according to the department.
Austin Energy crews spent about two hours de-energizing the line so people could be removed safely. One person was pronounced dead at the scene; the other was transported with no visible injuries, the fire department said.
