Police say Jesse C. Monroe II was arrested and charged with murder after 66-year-old Jefferey Grable was found dead near a northeast Austin bus stop. Investigators believe Grable was assaulted after lying down near the stop several hours earlier.
A 33-year-old man has been charged with murder after 66-year-old Jefferey Grable was found fatally injured near a bus stop in northeast Austin, police said.
Austin police officers responded shortly before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday to a welfare-check call from a CapMetro bus driver, who reported seeing someone bleeding on the ground in the 1000 block of Norwood Park Boulevard, near a Walmart Supercenter. Austin-Travis County EMS pronounced Grable dead at the scene.
Investigators believe Grable had been lying near the bus stop for several hours before a suspect approached and assaulted him, according to police. The suspect then fled, police said.
On Wednesday, investigators identified the suspect as Jesse C. Monroe II. Officers from the department’s Tactical Intelligence Unit, assisted by its Northeast 300 patrol shift, arrested Monroe in the 1000 block of West Rundberg Lane.
Monroe was taken to the Travis County Jail and charged with murder, a first-degree felony. The charge is an allegation; the case will proceed through the courts.
