San Marcos seeks vehicle and Wi-Fi leads in fatal 2018 Iconic Village fire
Investigators have released surveillance footage as they continue to investigate the deadly 2018 fire at San Marcos’ Iconic Village Apartments. The blaze killed five people and injured seven; authorities are asking for help identifying vehicles and Wi-Fi networks recorded in the area that night.
SAN MARCOS, Texas — Investigators are seeking public help identifying vehicles and Wi-Fi networks connected to the 2018 fire at the Iconic Village Apartments, a blaze that killed five people and injured seven.
The San Marcos Fire Department released surveillance video last week showing vehicles in the area on the night of the fire. Investigators say information about the vehicles could help the ongoing investigation. They are also trying to identify owners of Wi-Fi networks that were active nearby at the time.
The fire broke out on a July night at the apartment complex north of Texas State University. Residents recalled being woken by neighbors pounding on doors, while some escaped by jumping from the second floor. Investigators later determined the fire had been intentionally set.
The department launched a tip line dedicated to the case a few months before releasing the video. Anyone with information can call 512-393-7388.
The investigation remains unsolved eight years after the fire, which devastated residents and families and remains one of San Marcos’ deadliest apartment fires.
