Roommate charged after fatal shooting at South Austin apartments
A 34-year-old man died after a shooting Tuesday evening at the La Madrid Apartments in South Austin, and his roommate has been charged with murder, Austin police said. Officers were called to the apartments at 11320 Menchaca Road at about 8 p.m. Oct. 6. They found Miguel Guevara injured and provided medical aid before he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 9 p.m., police said. Police said Guevara had argued with his girlfriend and pointed a gun at her. A separate dispute over rent payments then arose between Guevara and his roommate, 24-year-old Christopher Foy. Investigators allege Foy shot Guevara and left the scene. Foy was later located and arrested in the 4600 block of Nuckols Crossing in southeast Austin. He faces a murder charge; the allegation has not been proven in court. Police are investigating the killing as Austin’s 46th homicide of 2026. Anyone with information can call the Austin Police Department’s Homicide Tip Line at 512-974-8477 or Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.
