Police seek suspect after 66-year-old is killed near Norwood Transit Center

Austin police are looking for a man in connection with the fatal assault of Jeffrey Grable near a north Austin bus stop. CapMetro said security-camera technology at the location was temporarily out of service when the killing occurred.

Austin police are searching for a man suspected of assaulting and killing 66-year-old Jeffrey Grable near the Norwood Transit Center in north Austin on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Police had not identified the suspect as of Wednesday, Oct. 7. Officers were sent to the 1000 block of Norwood Park Boulevard at about 5:17 a.m. after a caller reported someone on the ground and bleeding. They found Grable with apparent trauma to his body. He was pronounced dead at 5:34 a.m. Investigators believe Grable had been lying near the bus stop for several hours before an unknown person approached and assaulted him, then fled, police said. Police described the person they are seeking as a Black man in his 30s, about 6 feet tall and 185 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, black pants, white shoes and a cap worn backward. CapMetro said its security-camera technology at the location was temporarily out of service at the time. The transit agency said it was working to restore the system and would continue supporting law enforcement. The killing was Austin’s 45th homicide of 2026, according to police.
