Leander-Austin rail riders face temporary morning trip cuts starting Oct. 12
CapMetro will drop two weekday morning trips on its Red Line through Jan. 9, while moving the final downtown departure to 7:42 p.m. The agency says the temporary schedule is intended to make service more reliable, with trains running about every 37 minutes.
CapMetro will remove two weekday morning Red Line trips beginning Oct. 12, affecting riders traveling between Leander and downtown Austin.
The canceled trains are the 6:07 a.m. departure from Leander and the 7:20 a.m. departure from downtown Austin to Leander. The final train leaving downtown will depart about 20 minutes later than before, at 7:42 p.m.
CapMetro says the temporary changes will remain in place through Jan. 9, 2027, and are intended to improve the consistency and reliability of service. Under the revised schedule, trains will run about every 37 minutes, rather than at intervals ranging from 25 minutes to more than an hour.
Service to the northernmost station in Leander will still be unavailable between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The agency has also approved another set of schedule changes that will take effect Jan. 10, after the temporary adjustments end.
A separate expansion is planned for 2027: CapMetro’s North Burnet/Uptown Station, near The Domain, is expected to open that year. The agency has said it may consider repurposing the nearby Kramer station once the new stop is operating.
