A man died early Friday after a Manor police patrol vehicle struck him on U.S. 290, according to the Manor Police Department. The officer involved was placed on paid administrative leave. The crash happened at about 1:04 a.m. near Gregg Manor Road, in front of St. David’s Emergency Center. Investigators said the adult pedestrian was walking in the highway’s westbound lane when the patrol vehicle hit him. Officers began CPR and provided medical aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Manor Police Chief Ryan Phipps said the man may have been intoxicated. Officers at the scene reported smelling alcohol, and alcohol was found near the crash, according to the department. As of 5 a.m. Friday, westbound U.S. 290 was closed from Gregg Manor Road to State School Road. The department had not provided further details about the crash by the time of the initial report.
