Ten of 35 injured in Vienna shooting were hurt while fleeing, official says
VIENNA, Ga. — Ten of the 35 people injured in a predawn shooting at a neighborhood block party Sunday were not wounded by gunfire, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation. Some were struck by cars as people fled, others were trampled, and one person ran into a tree limb, the official said Wednesday. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation initially reported that 35 people were wounded but did not specify how many had been shot. The official’s account indicates that 25 of the injured suffered gunshot wounds. Two people were killed. Gunfire broke out at the gathering in the Middle Georgia town of Vienna early Sunday, Oct. 4. The violence sent people scattering through the area. Authorities have not publicly identified a motive, and no arrests had been announced as of Wednesday. Investigators are continuing to look for evidence and determine what led to the shooting. The circumstances that brought the crowd together and how the gunfire began remain under investigation.
