Isaias forecast to bring weekend rain, gusty winds and tornado risk to North Georgia

ATLANTA — North Georgia could see heavy rain, wind gusts of at least 30 mph and a few possible tornadoes this weekend as Tropical Storm Isaias moves through the Gulf, according to the forecast issued Wednesday, Oct. 7. Isaias formed in the southwest Gulf of Mexico Wednesday morning. The storm is expected to move northeast across the Gulf and approach the central Gulf Coast on Friday, with a forecast landfall Friday night or early Saturday as a hurricane. Hurricane and tropical storm watches have been issued for parts of the central Gulf Coast. The storm is projected to pass west of North Georgia. Rain could begin moving into the region from the south Friday night, with the greatest impacts expected during the day Saturday and continuing into early Sunday. Forecasters expect rain and wind to move out by Sunday afternoon or evening. The potential for tornadoes is expected to be greatest very late Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday. The forecast does not specify expected rainfall totals. The timing and intensity of the storm’s effects may change as it tracks toward the Gulf Coast.
