A visitor died and four others were injured Monday in an incident at Six Flags Over Georgia, prompting the evacuation of riders from the Goliath roller coaster, officials said.
The ride stopped with some cars near the top of the track, and park staff evacuated riders in groups of four. The circumstances surrounding the incident, including what caused it and whether it involved the ride itself, were not immediately disclosed.
Six Flags said park staff and local authorities responded and that the company was cooperating with the investigation. “We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today,” the company said in a statement, offering condolences to the visitor’s loved ones and support to affected guests and employees. It declined to provide further details, citing the family’s privacy.
The incident occurred at the theme park in Cobb County, west of Atlanta. Authorities had not released the name of the person who died or information about the four injured people.
