Atlanta water crews finish main-break repairs, but boiling precaution continues
Repairs are complete on a water main near the Chattahoochee Water Treatment Plant, but Atlanta’s boil-water advisory remains in place while crews monitor the system and finish water sampling. The precaution affects areas of southwest Atlanta, South Fulton, Fairburn and Union City after a Sunday water-supply interruption.
Atlanta water crews have repaired a main break near the Chattahoochee Water Treatment Plant, but residents and businesses in parts of southwest Atlanta, South Fulton, Fairburn and Union City should continue following a boil-water advisory issued after a Sunday interruption to the plant’s water supply.
The city’s Department of Watershed Management said it is monitoring plant operations and water-system pressures. The advisory will remain active until required water sampling is complete.
People who experienced an outage or low water pressure should use bottled water or bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute before drinking it, cooking, preparing baby food or brushing their teeth. The city also advises against drinking from public water fountains in the affected area. Infants, older adults and people with weakened immune systems should take extra care.
The advisory’s continued duration means repairs alone have not yet cleared the water for normal use; residents should wait for the city’s notice that sampling is complete before ending these precautions. Updates are available through the department’s @ATLWatershed account.
