Water main repair completed, but boil notice continues across southwest metro Atlanta
A boil-water advisory remained in effect Monday, Oct. 12, for South Fulton, Fairburn, Union City and parts of southwest Atlanta after a water main break disrupted supply to the Chattahoochee Water Treatment Plant. Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management issued the advisory overnight. The department said around 9 a.m. that crews had completed repairs, but the notice would stay in place while required water sampling is carried out. Residents in the affected area should use bottled water or bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute before drinking it, cooking, preparing baby formula or food, or brushing their teeth. The advisory also applies to water from public fountains. Infants, older adults and people with weakened immune systems should take particular care. The department had not announced when testing would be finished or when the advisory would be lifted. Residents should continue following the precaution until officials confirm the water is safe to use without boiling.
