SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Emergency crews ordered evacuations of as many as 100 homes Wednesday after a gas main was reportedly struck near Johnson Ferry Road and Sandy Springs Circle, police said. Johnson Ferry Road was closed between Sandy Springs Circle and Bonnie Lane/Wright Road. Police urged people to avoid the area, stay clear of the closure and give first responders room to work. Aerial images showed gas continuing to escape into the air. Officials had not announced what caused the damage, how long the road would remain closed or when residents could return home. Police asked the public to follow official channels for updates.
