Inmate charged in fatal shooting of contractor at Austell rail terminal

A Georgia prisoner has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a Norfolk Southern contractor at an Austell rail facility, becoming the fourth suspect accused in the case, Cobb County officials said Monday.

Christopher Riles, 36, faces charges of felony murder and aggravated assault in the death of Curdravious Clark. The shooting took place in the parking lot of the Whitaker Intermodal Terminal on Sept. 14.

Riles is being held at Calhoun State Prison in South Georgia. Georgia Department of Corrections records show he has been serving a sentence since December 2024 for gang participation in Cobb County. He also has prior prison stays dating to 2012, according to the records.

Police obtained arrest warrants for Riles on Oct. 14. Officials have not said how investigators believe he was connected to the shooting while incarcerated. Authorities have also not disclosed a motive.

Clark, 27, was found wounded at the scene and later died, according to information previously released by police. Three other men had already been charged in the killing.

The charges are allegations; Riles is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
