Doraville shooting outside Buford Highway restaurant leaves one dead, two evaluated
Pablo Gutierrez-Gallegos died after gunfire outside a Doraville restaurant shortly after midnight Sunday. Police say suspect Daniel Roman-Cortez told officers he believed Gutierrez-Gallegos was involved with his wife; two restaurant patrons were checked for injuries from flying glass.
A man was killed in a shooting outside a restaurant on Buford Highway in Doraville shortly after midnight Sunday, and two people inside the restaurant were evaluated for injuries caused by flying glass, police said.
Officers responded around midnight Oct. 25 to the 5700 block of Buford Highway, where they found Pablo Gutierrez-Gallegos unresponsive outside the restaurant. Officers tried to save him, but DeKalb County paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, according to Doraville police.
Police identified Daniel Roman-Cortez as the suspect. They said he attempted to leave in a blue pickup truck, but officers stopped the vehicle and detained him. During the encounter, Roman-Cortez reportedly told officers, “I shot him, I killed him.” Police also said he told them he believed Gutierrez-Gallegos was sleeping with his wife.
Two people seated inside the restaurant were struck by glass fragments from the gunfire. Paramedics assessed both at the scene and cleared them, police said.
Roman-Cortez remained in police custody as Doraville police investigated with assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Police asked anyone with information to call the department at 770-455-1000.
