Audi plans first U.S. factory at Middle Georgia megasite, targeting 2031 production

Audi plans to build its first U.S. manufacturing plant at the Middle Georgia Megasite, a project the company says will cost $4 billion and create about 4,500 jobs.

President Donald Trump announced the plan Saturday during a rally in Perry. The factory is expected to produce premium SUVs designed for North American customers, with full production targeted for 2031 and annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles.

According to the company’s announcement, grading is expected to begin in 2027, followed by construction in 2028. The project’s job estimate was also included in a statement from Gov. Brian Kemp’s office.

Kemp said Georgia had purchased and improved the megasite to attract a major automotive manufacturer. He credited professionals from Peach, Macon-Bibb and Houston counties who worked through the Mid-Georgia Gateway Joint Development Authority.

Audi said locally manufactured SUVs tailored to North American buyers could help it expand in what it described as one of the world’s most important premium vehicle markets. The announcement does not specify when hiring will begin or provide details about wages, public incentives or the plant’s expected environmental impacts.
