Clayton County family mourns 16-year-old killed at Oak Run apartments
Jayden Miller was found shot early Tuesday at the Oak Run apartments in Clayton County. His sister says a friend told her the shooting happened after Miller went outside with another friend; police say the investigation remains active.
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Jayden Miller, 16, was found with a gunshot wound early Tuesday at the Oak Run apartments on Main Street, leaving his family grieving another loss after the recent death of his mother.
Miller’s sister, Gabbi Hood-Miller, said a friend who was with him that night told her Miller went outside with another friend to play-fight. The friend said he heard a gunshot, then found Miller on the ground; the person with the gun had left, Hood-Miller said.
She also said the friend told her the alleged shooter was trying to impress his girlfriend. That account and the reported motive have not been confirmed by police. Clayton County police said the case remains under investigation and could not confirm whether a warrant had been issued for a suspect.
Hood-Miller said her brother had planned to attend trade school in North Carolina, where the family is from. The family plans to take him there to be buried beside their mother.
“Now I got to start a new chapter of my life without my little brother,” Hood-Miller said. She said Miller’s death has underscored the importance of being careful about whom people trust.
