Redmond-based Microsoft launches voluntary departure offer for workers in four countries
Microsoft is offering a time-limited exit program to eligible employees at participating organizations in the U.S., Canada, India and the U.K. The company has not publicly detailed the financial terms; eligible workers will receive individual offer information by email.
REDMOND, Wash. — Microsoft is introducing a voluntary departure program for eligible employees at participating organizations in the United States, Canada, India and the United Kingdom, the company said Oct. 26.
The offer is available to employees at level 70 and below, but not across the entire company. Amy Coleman, Microsoft’s executive vice president and chief people officer, said participation will depend on each business unit’s priorities, customer commitments and staffing needs.
Employees who qualify will receive an email with details of their offer. Microsoft said the time-limited program includes financial support and career-planning resources, but did not disclose specific payout amounts or other terms publicly.
Coleman said the program is intended for employees considering a future beyond Microsoft and gives participating teams another option for adjusting their workforces. She described the offer as a new approach for the company and said Microsoft would learn from the experience.
The initiative follows a voluntary retirement program Microsoft offered earlier in the year. The company is headquartered in Redmond, making the workforce decision consequential for the region, though Microsoft has not said how many employees may be eligible or how many departures it anticipates.
