PSE customers have until Nov. 12 to comment on proposed rate increases

Puget Sound Energy’s plan would raise electricity rates by about 30% and natural-gas rates by nearly 20% over three years, if approved. Hundreds of customers weighed in at an Oct. 7 public meeting, and written comments are due Nov. 12.

PSE customers have until Nov. 12 to comment on proposed rate increases
Puget Sound Energy customers could see steep increases in their electricity and natural-gas bills under a three-year rate plan now before Washington regulators. The utility is seeking approval for a $1.5 billion increase in customer rates, including tens of millions of dollars in payments to shareholders. PSE’s proposal, filed in April, would raise electricity rates by about 30% and gas rates by nearly 20% from 2027 through 2029. Hundreds of customers spoke at a public meeting on Oct. 7, as regulators consider the company’s request. For an electricity customer using 800 kilowatt-hours a month, PSE estimates monthly bill increases of $28 in 2027, $7 in 2028 and $16 in 2029. Under that estimate, the customer’s annual electricity costs would be $612 higher in 2029. For a gas customer, the company projects increases of $14 a month in 2027, $4 in 2028 and $5 in 2029. That would add $276 to the customer’s annual gas costs in 2029, based on the usage in PSE’s estimate. The proposed increases are subject to review and approval by the state’s Utilities and Transportation Commission. Customers have until Nov. 12 to submit written testimony through the commission’s public-comment portal.
