Starbucks to close five Washington cafes, eliminate eight Seattle headquarters jobs
Starbucks plans to permanently close five coffeehouses in Washington and eliminate eight jobs at its Seattle headquarters, according to a notice the company filed with the state on Oct. 7. The closures affect cafes at 7625 170th Ave. NE in Redmond; 9150 Rainier Ave. S. and 999 Leary Way N.W. in Seattle; 2401 W. Wellesley Ave. in Spokane; and 918 S.E. 164th Ave. in Vancouver. The eight headquarters employees work at or report to Starbucks’ Seattle Support Center at 2401 Utah Ave. The company expects the terminations to occur from Nov. 14 through Dec. 4, 2026, and said affected employees had received at least 60 days’ notice. Some cafe employees will be offered transfers to other Starbucks locations in their area, the notice said. The company described the closures as permanent and said they were not connected to a relocation or contracting out of work. It did not give a reason for the closures or job cuts in the notice. Employees at the Redmond and Spokane stores are represented by a union, which Starbucks said had been notified. The notice does not identify affected employees by name. The filing was submitted under state and federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification requirements, which require advance notice of certain large layoffs and closures. Starbucks said the affected cafe employees and headquarters staff would lose their jobs permanently.
