A 44-year-old woman was arrested in Lynnwood on Oct. 6 after prosecutors filed a first-degree manslaughter charge in connection with the 2022 death of her 2-year-old child, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were called to a Lynnwood home on Nov. 12, 2022, for a report of an unresponsive child. They attempted lifesaving measures before the child was taken to Swedish Hospital in Edmonds, where he was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators determined the child had been in his mother’s care the night before and the morning he died. Detectives reported recovering suspected fentanyl, suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia from the home.
The investigation included search warrants, forensic work, laboratory and toxicology testing, and an autopsy conducted by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner. Detectives referred a first-degree manslaughter charge with a domestic-violence designation to the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office in July 2023. Prosecutors filed the charge after reviewing the investigative and medical findings, the sheriff’s office said.
The woman was arrested in the 15200 block of 35th Avenue West and booked into jail. The allegations have not been proven in court.
