Greenlaw faces suspension after ejection in 49ers’ win over Seattle
The NFL suspended San Francisco linebacker Dre Greenlaw for one game after a sideline altercation against the Seahawks. He is expected to appeal the penalty, which could keep him out of the 49ers’ Week 6 game against Washington.
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw was suspended for one game Monday for unsportsmanlike conduct during the team’s 32-29 win over the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.
The league’s suspension stems from a second-quarter confrontation with 6:23 remaining and San Francisco ahead 14-10. After Greenlaw appeared to hit Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold as Darnold ran out of bounds, Seattle players gathered around the 49ers linebacker. Greenlaw then headbutted Seattle linebacker Ernest Jones, who was not wearing a helmet, and was ejected.
The penalty could sideline Greenlaw for the 49ers’ Week 6 game against the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football at Levi’s Stadium. Greenlaw plans to appeal, according to a report citing a source. The NFL and NFL Players Association have jointly appointed Derrick Brooks, Jordy Nelson, Ron Rivera and James Thrash as hearing officers who can decide appeals.
Greenlaw’s availability for the matchup could depend on the appeal’s outcome. The 49ers beat Seattle on Sunday despite losing him after the ejection.
