Four eastbound lanes of Highway 4 were closed west of Willow Pass after a wrong-way crash involving a Honda Civic and several other vehicles, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday evening, Oct. 10.
The crash happened around 6 p.m. The Honda, which CHP said was involved in a pursuit with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, collided with a vehicle before entering the highway’s eastbound lanes against traffic.
The Honda clipped two other vehicles before hitting a Jeep Grand Cherokee head-on, CHP said. The Honda overturned, and its driver, a woman, suffered moderate injuries, authorities said.
The woman and a passenger ran from the scene but were apprehended by sheriff’s deputies, according to CHP.
Lanes one through four eastbound were closed west of Willow Pass. Authorities had not provided an estimated reopening time and advised drivers to take alternate routes.
