Two Marin youths referred to prosecutors after antisemitic graffiti at Brookside Elementary
Two juveniles have been identified as possible suspects in antisemitic graffiti found at Brookside Elementary School in San Anselmo, and Central Marin police have referred the case to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges. The suspects are 12 and 13 years old, police said. Because of their ages, authorities have not released their identities. Police said evidence gathered in the investigation was sufficient to send the case to prosecutors. The incident is being investigated as a potential hate crime. The graffiti, which included antisemitic writing and images, was reported at the school last weekend. Investigators believe the vandalism occurred between the end of classes Friday and Saturday evening. Police documented and photographed the scene but could not remove the markings; the school had the area cleaned before classes resumed Monday. The Central Marin Police Authority credited information from members of the public and the Ross Valley School District with helping identify the youths. Dozens of Brookside students and family members also gathered at the school for a community rally focused on hope and resilience after the discovery.
