Woman dies after being struck on I-80 near Cordelia scales
An unidentified woman was killed early Sunday on westbound Interstate 80 in Solano County. The California Highway Patrol says a semi-truck struck her after merging onto the freeway from westbound state Route 12; the investigation is continuing.
A woman whose identity has not been released was killed early Sunday after being struck by a semi-truck on westbound Interstate 80 near the Cordelia Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility in Solano County, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP’s Golden Gate Communications Center received a report at about 12:49 a.m. of a large obstruction in the freeway’s third and fourth lanes, just east of the commercial vehicle scales. Responding officers arrived around 12:55 a.m. and found the woman in the roadway with fatal injuries, according to the CHP.
Investigators said the truck, a 2015 Peterbilt driven by a 59-year-old Oakley man, had merged onto westbound I-80 from westbound state Route 12. The truck struck the pedestrian in the freeway’s sixth lane, the CHP said.
The driver believed he had hit a large box and pulled into the westbound scales after noticing radiator damage. Officers later found physical evidence at the scales connecting the truck to the crash. The CHP said drugs and alcohol are not suspected to have played a role for the driver.
Officers briefly stopped all westbound traffic while responding. The freeway’s first lane reopened at 3:38 a.m., the CHP said. The investigation remains open as authorities work to identify the woman.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the CHP Solano Area office.
