San Francisco health officials investigate two TB cases associated with Market Street club

San Francisco public health officials are investigating two active tuberculosis cases associated with The Crazy Horse, a strip club on Market Street, and are working to identify people who may have been exposed.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health said Thursday, Oct. 22, that it learned of the first confirmed case in early October and began contact tracing. The effort is continuing, the department said, while the current risk to the general public remains low. Officials said they would notify the public if that assessment changes.

The cases do not necessarily mean there is an outbreak or that the infections were acquired at the club. UCSF infectious disease specialist Dr. Peter Chin-Hong said investigators must determine whether the cases are linked and where the people became infected; it is not yet clear whether either person contracted tuberculosis at the establishment.

The Crazy Horse has operated in San Francisco for more than three decades. The club had not responded to a request for comment by the time of publication.
