Man dies after Tenderloin crash; woman arrested on Treasure Island

A man died after being struck by a vehicle in San Francisco’s Tenderloin early Sunday, and police arrested a woman suspected of driving the car, authorities said.

San Francisco police responded at 1:06 a.m. Oct. 25 to a collision on Ellis Street between Polk Street and Van Ness Avenue. Officers found the man injured in the street, provided aid and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His identity had not been released.

The driver had left the scene before officers arrived. Police said they traced the vehicle to Treasure Island, where California Highway Patrol officers had stopped an adult woman for an unrelated traffic violation. After San Francisco officers told CHP about the fatal collision, they developed probable cause to arrest the woman, police said.

The woman was booked into county jail on suspicion of homicide. Police did not release her name. The vehicle was towed as evidence, and the department’s homicide unit is investigating.

Police said the investigation remains open. Anyone with information can call SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 beginning with “SFPD.” Tips may be anonymous.
