Anthropic IPO filing puts San Francisco’s AI wealth and influence in focus
The San Francisco-based maker of Claude has filed to go public, reporting $16.3 billion in first-half revenue and a $693 million operating loss. Its CEO and co-founders would retain 50.1% of voting power, while a listing could create a new pool of employee wealth in the city.
Anthropic filed paperwork to go public on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, setting up a potential blockbuster listing for the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company and its employees. The company plans to trade under the ticker symbol ANT.
The filing reports $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026, up from $1.16 billion in the same period a year earlier. Anthropic also recorded an $80 billion loss for the six months, much of it tied to accounting adjustments as the company’s valuation rose. Its operating loss — a measure of expenses and income from its business — was $693 million.
The company’s chief executive and co-founders would retain 50.1% of its voting power after the offering, according to the filing. Anthropic was last valued by private investors at $965 billion in May, when it raised money.
Founded in San Francisco, Anthropic has become one of the leading developers of advanced AI systems through its Claude models, which are widely used for tasks including software development. A public listing could turn some employees into millionaires or billionaires and further entrench the company’s presence in the city’s economy and civic life.
Anthropic’s leaders, who left rival OpenAI to start the company, have emphasized the potential risks of powerful AI and warned that the technology could pose existential dangers. Those warnings have helped make the company and its executives prominent voices in policy debates, even as Anthropic’s products and commercial reach expand.
The IPO would give public-market investors a new way to buy into a company whose growth has been rapid but whose reported losses underscore the financial stakes of developing and operating advanced AI systems.
