Car left in Market Street Muni tunnel after driver fled, police say

A driver left a car inside San Francisco’s Muni Metro tunnel beneath Market Street on Saturday after driving into the tunnel and damaging city property, police said.

San Francisco police officers arrived near the tunnel entrance at Folsom and Embarcadero streets at 3:46 p.m. and found the vehicle inside. The driver had fled, the department said, and officers opened a hit-and-run investigation. The car was later towed.

The incident disrupted Muni service for the rest of Saturday evening. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said service had resumed by 9:20 a.m. Sunday.

Police did not release information about the driver or the extent of the damage.
