Swansea pickup truck hits home on Route 6; driver arrested on OUI allegations
A Swansea man was arrested after his pickup left Route 6 and struck a home at 1228 Grand Army of the Republic Highway on Oct. 25, police said. The house was deemed unsafe to occupy, though no one was inside when the truck hit it.
A 2022 Toyota Tacoma left Route 6 and struck the porch and foundation of a Swansea home Sunday afternoon, leading to the driver’s arrest on operating-under-the-influence and other charges, police said.
Swansea police, firefighters and ambulance personnel responded around 4:29 p.m. Oct. 25 to 1228 Grand Army of the Republic Highway after a 911 call reported the crash. Police Chief Mark Foley identified the driver as Douglas McLane of Swansea.
The truck’s airbags deployed in the impact. Swansea Ambulance Corps transported McLane to Charlton Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Police arrested him on suspicion of operating under the influence, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked-lanes violation. The charges are allegations.
A possible gas leak prompted a response from Liberty Utilities. Firefighters installed supports beneath the damaged porch, but the home was deemed unsafe to occupy. No one was inside at the time; a resident returned to retrieve a dog.
The Tacoma was towed from the scene.
