Raynham Police and Fire Combine Dispatch Centers
Raynham's police and fire departments merged their emergency dispatch operations on Nov. 1, creating a single around-the-clock center at the police station to improve coordination and free up a firefighter for field response.
RAYNHAM, Mass. â The town's police and fire departments have merged their emergency dispatch operations, launching a single around-the-clock center at the police station on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 8 a.m.
The consolidated center now handles police, fire and emergency medical calls, replacing a system in which the police department and fire station each maintained separate dispatchers.
Police Chief David LaPlante said the change allows dispatchers to coordinate calls for both departments and share information more efficiently. Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita said the move also frees up a firefighter who previously worked in dispatch to respond to emergencies in the field.
To support the transition, the police department hired two full-time communication clerks, and dispatchers completed joint training with fire personnel.
The consolidation is intended to improve emergency response coordination and streamline operations for the two departments. Residents calling 911 will continue to reach dispatchers who can now route police, fire and medical resources from a single location.
