27-year-old man injured in early-morning hit-and-run near Mezzo Lounge, police say
Providence police are searching for a white van that struck a 27-year-old man crossing the street toward Mezzo Lounge early Sunday and fled the scene, leaving him with rib and ankle injuries.
PROVIDENCE â A 27-year-old man was hospitalized early Sunday morning after a white van struck him as he crossed the street toward Mezzo Lounge and then drove away, according to Providence police.
Officers were called to the scene at about 2:11 a.m. on Nov. 8. Police said the man was crossing the street from the direction of the Wendy's toward the lounge when the van hit him. The vehicle did not stop and fled the area.
The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries described by police as non-life-threatening, including damage to his left ribs and ankle.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation, and police have not released a description of the van beyond its color or said whether they have identified a suspect. No further details were immediately available.
The location, a stretch of roadway near the lounge and the fast-food restaurant, is a busy corridor where pedestrians cross between late-night businesses. The crash adds to concerns about pedestrian safety in the city, particularly during overnight hours when visibility is low and traffic can move quickly.
Anyone with information about the van or the incident is urged to contact Providence police.
