Police said a juvenile ran from officers near 470 Potters Avenue Friday night after an officer felt what seemed to be a firearm handle in the youth’s crossbody bag. Officers later took the juvenile into custody; searches by police and a K-9 did not find a gun.
A juvenile was taken into custody Friday night after running from Providence police near 470 Potters Avenue, where officers had responded to reports of people gathered in the road, police said.
Officers found a group in the street and approached one person wearing a crossbody bag. During an attempted pat-down, an officer felt what seemed to be the handle of a firearm, according to police. The juvenile ran toward Hamilton and Laura streets, then briefly entered a parking lot, where officers caught up and took the youth into custody.
Police said the juvenile resisted arrest and was referred to the Youth Services Bureau for charging. Officers and a police K-9 searched but did not recover a firearm.
