Rookie Caiya Hanks scored a late equalizer Sunday as the visiting Portland Thorns drew 2-2 with Bay FC, recovering after Bay went ahead in the second half.

Portland, now 12-8-8, trailed 2-1 after Kennedy Fuller put Bay in front in the 67th minute. Hanks followed up her own blocked shot, collected the rebound and scored with fewer than four minutes remaining in regulation.

The Thorns had opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Nina Nijstad gathered a failed Bay clearance and passed to Morgan Weaver, whose one-touch shot from the top of the penalty area sailed over goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz.

Bay tied the game in the 33rd minute. Karlie Lema beat Portland goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold and sent a low cross to Caroline Conti, who finished into the open net. Lema assisted again on Fuller’s goal, which came after Fuller turned past Portland defender Carolyn Calzada.

Bay, which fell to 7-15-6, was awarded a penalty in the 29th minute, but the decision was overturned after review. Hanks’ late finish prevented the hosts from turning their second-half lead into a win.
