Oregon receiver Evan Stewart booked on DUII charge in Springfield
Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart was booked into Springfield Municipal Jail early Sunday on a DUII charge and released about an hour later. Police said the booking was unrelated to a separate pursuit that brought several Ducks players to their attention.
Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart was booked into Springfield Municipal Jail at about 7 a.m. Sunday on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants and was released to a third party roughly an hour later, a jail representative said. State custody records show he is no longer in jail.
The booking was unrelated to a separate police pursuit early Sunday. Springfield police said rumors that Oregon football players were involved in street racing were unfounded; several players were contacted because they were in the area of the pursuit. Officers found an abandoned vehicle, but police later said they were no longer pursuing that case.
Oregon Athletics had not responded to a request for comment as of early Monday.
Stewart, a fifth-year player, did not play in Oregon’s 17-14 win over Nebraska on Saturday at Autzen Stadium because of an undisclosed injury. He transferred from Texas A&M in 2024 and missed the 2025 season after tearing his right patellar tendon. In five games this season, he has caught 27 passes for 352 yards and four touchdowns.
The case is the second DUII matter involving someone in the Ducks football program this year. Running backs coach Ra’Shaad Samples was charged with DUII and reckless driving in April after an alleged collision with a parked car in Eugene. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 27.
Oregon, which is 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play, is scheduled to visit Illinois on Saturday.
