Oregon weighs internal response after receiver Evan Stewart’s DUI arrest
Oregon coach Dan Lanning said the team is still reviewing the circumstances of wide receiver Evan Stewart’s arrest on a driving-under-the-influence charge. Stewart was arrested early Sunday, hours after the Ducks beat Nebraska 17-14.
EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon is reviewing how to respond after wide receiver Evan Stewart was arrested early Sunday on a charge of driving under the influence, coach Dan Lanning said Monday night.
Lanning said the incident did not meet the program’s standards and that the team was still gathering information. He said any response would be handled internally and declined to answer further questions about the arrest.
Stewart was booked into Springfield Municipal Jail, according to the Springfield Police Department. The arrest followed Oregon’s 17-14 comeback win over Nebraska on Saturday night. Lanning called the incident unfortunate, saying it cast a shadow over the victory.
Stewart did not play against Nebraska because of an undisclosed injury. He has 27 receptions for 352 yards and four touchdowns this season. He missed all of last season after tearing his right patellar tendon.
Oregon entered the week 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten. The Ducks are scheduled to play Illinois, which was 3-3 overall and 1-2 in conference, on Saturday.
