Uncle Vinny’s Pizza receives 71 in Multnomah County inspection; 18 businesses score 100
A county inspection flagged rodent evidence, food-storage problems and sanitation issues at the Northeast Sandy Boulevard pizzeria. HK Cafe and a Starbucks location were among 18 establishments listed with perfect scores.
Uncle Vinny’s Pizza, at 12424 N.E. Sandy Blvd., received a score of 71 in a Multnomah County health inspection after inspectors documented food-safety and sanitation problems, including a dead rodent and droppings in dry storage.
The inspection also found food that was spoiled, held at unsafe temperatures or kept beyond its permitted storage period. Two handwashing sinks lacked sufficiently hot water, and one was being used to hold dirty dishes, according to the county findings summarized Friday, Oct. 16.
Other cited conditions included rust on a can opener, a damaged refrigerator lid and seal, grease dripping from the kitchen hood onto nearby equipment, and heavy slime buildup around a soda dispenser drain. A vial was stored alongside dishes used by customers.
The county’s public health department conducts unannounced inspections of food-service businesses twice a year. Establishments begin with 100 points, with deductions for violations; high-priority violations can cost three to five points. The county groups findings into priority items tied to direct foodborne-illness risks, priority foundation items involving procedures or equipment, and core issues related to sanitation and maintenance.
Eighteen establishments listed in the inspection report received scores of 100, including HK Cafe at 4410 S.E. 82nd Ave. and Starbucks Coffee at 1850 S.W. Skyline Blvd. The list also included El Yucateco, Fifty Licks, Golden Triangle Asian Fusion, Jojo’s Gyro, Kachka Fabrika Distillery and Zakuski Bar, Kracked Crab, New Cascadia Traditional, two Pizzicato locations, Recess, Reel M Inn, Steeplejack Brewery, Turn Turn Turn, Wasabi Sushi PDX, Where’s Coffeegirl and Yin’s Tea.
Inspection scores offer customers a snapshot of conditions observed during a visit. The findings reported for Uncle Vinny’s describe the inspection, not necessarily the restaurant’s current conditions.
