Estacada man gets 35-year sentence in abuse of three girls he babysat
Michael Paul Ayles was sentenced in Multnomah County on Oct. 14 after a jury convicted him of sex crimes involving three girls. Court records describe abuse spanning 2009 to 2023, with two victims saying it began when they were 4 and 5 years old.
An Estacada man was sentenced to 35 years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing three girls he cared for as a babysitter, authorities said.
Michael Paul Ayles, 35, was sentenced Oct. 14 by Multnomah County Circuit Judge Celia Howes. A jury found him guilty in July of first-degree sodomy and eight counts of first-degree sexual abuse. Ayles later pleaded no contest to an additional first-degree sodomy charge.
The girls said the abuse began when two of them were 4 and 5 years old, while the third said it started when she was 5 or 6. Court documents place the incidents between 2009 and 2023.
Oregon’s Jessica’s Law requires enhanced penalties for certain crimes against children younger than 12. The sodomy charges carried a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years, according to the case information.
Deputy District Attorney Mihnea Moga, who prosecuted the case, thanked the victims for coming forward and said their participation helped hold Ayles accountable. Moga said prosecutors are committed to pursuing justice and protecting victims when someone exploits vulnerable people.
