ODOT starts reopening southbound I-5 in Portland Wednesday night
The Oregon Department of Transportation says it will begin reopening southbound I-5 at 10 p.m. Wednesday, about a week earlier than the original repair schedule. Bringing the interstate, ramps and traffic-control devices back into operation could take up to 24 hours.
PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon transportation officials plan to begin reopening southbound Interstate 5 in Portland at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, after nearly four weeks of closure for repairs.
The work had been expected to take five weeks, but the Oregon Department of Transportation said Wednesday that the reopening process would start roughly a week ahead of that schedule. ODOT cautioned that reopening the interstate and its ramps, and restoring traffic-control devices, could take as long as 24 hours.
That means the full return of traffic may not be immediate after work begins Wednesday night. The closure has redirected drivers onto detours during the repair period.
