Multnomah County jury convicts Gabriel Weiss in 2011 Portland sexual assault case

A jury found Gabriel Forest Weiss guilty of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse in a case that went to retrial after an earlier jury deadlocked. The woman who reported the assault said she came forward in 2023 after seeing a police request for information.

Multnomah County jury convicts Gabriel Weiss in 2011 Portland sexual assault case

A Multnomah County jury found Gabriel Forest Weiss guilty of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse in connection with a 2011 assault in Portland, prosecutors said. The verdict was reached Oct. 5, after an earlier jury could not reach a decision. Weiss is in custody, and a sentencing hearing will be scheduled later.

The case involved a woman identified in court as L.B., who was 22 when she responded to a Craigslist ad seeking nude models for an art project. Prosecutors said Weiss arranged to meet her at his inner Southeast Portland studio in June 2011. During the session, he kissed her without consent, restrained and gagged her, then raped and sexually abused her, including by biting her breasts, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.

L.B. did not report the assault at the time. In a statement released by prosecutors, she said she felt ashamed and feared she would not be believed. She wrote about the incident in a private Facebook group in 2015, where other women described similar experiences with Weiss, she said.

In 2023, someone in the group sent her a Portland police request for information about Weiss. L.B. contacted the detective and said she had evidence, including photographs she had taken of her injuries after the assault. She later testified before a grand jury and at trial.

“When I heard the word ‘guilty’ after a three-and-a-half year criminal process, I felt free,” L.B. said in her statement. She described years of investigation and litigation, including a first trial that ended without a verdict and the decision to testify again at retrial.

The conviction follows a separate ruling involving another woman, identified as T.S. On July 2, 2025, Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Souede found Weiss guilty of first-degree sexual abuse in that case. Prosecutors said T.S. had responded to a Craigslist modeling ad in January 2014 and that Weiss forcefully kissed and repeatedly bit her during a modeling session, causing heavy bruising.

L.B. said she hopes the verdict encourages others with information about Weiss to come forward. She also urged people who have experienced assault to preserve evidence if they can, while emphasizing that the passage of time does not make what happened meaningless or prevent someone from being heard.
