Louie cocktail bar plans November opening in St. Johns’ former Garrison space

A new cocktail bar is set to open in St. Johns in mid-November, taking over the former Garrison Bar space at 8773 N. Lombard St. in Portland.

Louie is being opened by Jesse Morrow of Old Friend, whose team also operates Company Bar on Southeast Belmont Street and Collector in the Kerns neighborhood. Morrow said the new business hopes to continue the role the Garrison played locally while offering residents a place for cocktails without traveling across town.

The menu will center on classic drinks with small variations, including an old fashioned and Louie’s version of an espresso martini, as well as rotating specials. Cocktails are expected to cost $13 to $15. The bar will also serve draft beer, wine and a limited selection of snacks.

The planned interior features salvaged tabletops, secondhand chairs and low lighting. Louie will share a patio with neighboring Mikasa, a sushi and ramen restaurant.

Morrow said the name is a family name, but does not refer to one specific person; the idea is that many people have a Louie in their family or among their loved ones. Construction was underway as of Oct. 20, with the opening planned for the middle of November.
