Deputy pulls elderly driver from car submerged in Alsea Bay
A Lincoln County deputy entered the water to free an elderly man trapped in a car about 40 feet offshore Thursday afternoon. The driver’s identity, condition and how the car entered the bay were not immediately known.
An elderly man was rescued from a car that had crashed into Alsea Bay in Lincoln County and become partly submerged Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies were called at about 1:18 p.m. after reports of a single-car crash. They found the vehicle roughly 40 feet from shore and heard a man calling for help from inside, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies used a small boat to reach the car. Deputy Jacob Wright entered the water, freed the trapped driver and kept him above water until a Central Oregon Coast Fire crew arrived. The man was brought to shore on a Jet Ski, where an ambulance was waiting.
Authorities had not publicly identified the man. It was not clear what caused the crash or whether he was injured.
