Two men killed in shooting near 16th and McKinley streets; Phoenix police seek suspect
Charles Hendrix, 56, and Jerry Braggs, 64, were found dead after gunfire was reported shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday in central Phoenix. Police said the suspect remained at large and asked witnesses to share information, while saying there was no known threat to the public.
Two men were killed in a shooting early Tuesday near 16th and McKinley streets in central Phoenix, and police were searching for a suspect who they believe left the scene.
Phoenix police officers arrived after several people called 911 shortly before 5 a.m. to report gunfire. They found Charles Hendrix, 56, and Jerry Braggs, 64, dead at the scene, police Sgt. John Buchanan said.
Investigators initially thought there might be a third victim, but later confirmed that no other victims were found. Police had not located the suspect as of Tuesday, and a Phoenix police helicopter circled the Garfield neighborhood during the search.
Buchanan said investigators would document and measure the scene, look for surveillance video and seek additional witnesses. He said the investigation would take time. Police said there was no indication of a threat to other community members.
