Two arrested after suspected street-racing chase ends on Scottsdale Airport tarmac
A vehicle being tracked by Phoenix police crashed through a locked airport gate Saturday night, striking a detective’s car, an unoccupied plane and a wall. Two people were arrested after running toward the active tarmac; the FBI took over the investigation.
Two people were arrested Saturday night after a vehicle Phoenix police were pursuing in connection with suspected street racing crashed through a locked security gate at Scottsdale Airport and struck an unoccupied small plane, a detective’s car and a wall, authorities said.
Police identified the people in the vehicle as Liberty Dawn Still, 33, and Michael Gregory Wall, 24. The crash happened at about 11:15 p.m. The pair ran from the vehicle toward an active airport tarmac, and one was subdued with a Taser before both were taken into custody, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
The department said its Air Support Unit had been tracking the vehicle before officers on the ground attempted to stop it at the gate. Scottsdale police helped secure the area and document property damage. Airport operations were not affected.
The FBI responded and assumed the ongoing investigation. Authorities did not provide details about potential charges or the extent of the damage.
