PHOENIX — Authorities are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who robbed an Ahwatukee store after claiming he had a gun, even though he never showed a firearm, police said.
The robbery happened after 8 p.m. Sept. 28, 2025, near 47th Street and Chandler Boulevard. Surveillance footage showed the man selecting items from store shelves and trying to leave. When employees confronted him, he said he had a gun. The workers backed away, and he left the store.
Police described the suspect as a Black man, about 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 250 pounds. He was wearing glasses and a long-sleeved shirt, and his face was covered.
Silent Witness is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps resolve the case. Anyone with information can call 480-WITNESS (480-948-6377) or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.
Law enforcement advises store employees not to confront suspects during robberies. Instead, they should let suspects leave, observe what they can safely and contact police to file a report.
